Textiles are where material, memory, and meaning meet.
I’m Vaishnavi Chitrapu, a textile and surface designer whose practice explores the intersection of sustainability, material research, craft, and wellbeing.
My work is driven by curiosity about how materials carry stories, how traditional knowledge can inform contemporary design, and how textiles can create meaningful connections between people, nature, and everyday life. Through natural dyeing, eco-printing, biomaterial exploration, and textile development, I explore ways of creating that are thoughtful, responsible, and rooted in care.
I am particularly interested in the emotional and sensory qualities of textiles, and in how processes such as dyeing, stitching, and material experimentation can become acts of reflection, healing, and connection. Whether I am developing a natural dye recipe book, exploring Ayurvastra-inspired textiles, collaborating with artisans, or designing products for contemporary lifestyles, my goal remains the same: to create work that is both meaningful and sustainable.
This portfolio brings together projects, experiments, and ongoing explorations that reflect my journey as a designer, researcher, and maker.
